Model Kate Moss Returns To Burberry

Model Kate Moss Returns To BurberryAfter nearly being excommunicated from the fashion biz, Kate Moss uses her supermodel powers to reinvigorate her career and modelling again for English fashion house Burberry nine months after her cocaine scandal. Staring directly at the camera, Kate Moss appears to revel in the very public endorsement of yet another major fashion house.
Moss, 32, appears in a white lace trench coat at the center of Burberry’s main autumn-winter 2006-2007 advertisement, one in a series of ads launched Monday to celebrate the clothier’s 150th anniversary. Alongside model Stella Tennant, Tennant’s daughter Jasmine and Bryan Ferry’s sons Otis and Isaac and shot by celebrity photographer Mario Testino.

After the scandal broke, Moss lost contracts with Swedish retailer H+M, Roberto Cavalli and Gloria Vanderbilt. Although Burberry distanced themselves from Moss by dropping her from their Fall 2005 campaign and removing her posters from their flagship store, they insist she always remained “part of the Burberry family.” But why the renewed love now? Calls to Burberry were not immediately returned.
After apologizing to “all the people I have let down” and visiting a rehab clinic in Arizona, she signed new modeling contracts and appeared on several magazine covers.

Since Moss was welcomed back into the fashion world after spending time in a drug rehabilitation centre, anti-drug campaigners have been critical about the industry’s willingness to quickly forgive the shamed model. Burberry was not the only company to cancel planned projects with the supermodel following the cocaine scandal. H+M and Roberto Cavalli both ditched Moss, sending her career into freefall.
A spokesman said at the time: “Kate is part of the Burberry family and it is only natural that she should be here.”

[…] But now Kate is back in favour with the fashion industry and has signed new deals with, among others, Burberry, Calvin, Klein and Virgin Mobile - contracts that are set to earn her a staggering £10 million by the end of 2006. The key to Moss’s style is individuality and insouciance. Michael Roberts, fashion and style director of Vanity Fair, said: “Kate has a natural talent for putting fresh looks together that are inspirational for other modern girls to follow. The number of items described on the auction website eBay as “very Kate Moss” indicates how many trends she has popularised: skinny jeans, waistcoats, gold chains, ballet pumps, quilted Chanel bags. 2. Skinny Models Banning Controversy Shocks Fashion World | Women Lifestyle, Fashion, Health, Beauty and Personality says

[…] The organisers of London Fashion Week, which begins next Monday, said they would not be introducing a similar restrictions rule on what type of models its designers use. U.S. fashion houses would be wise to follow Spain’s lead and give the boot to models who are so skinny they are unhealthy. Although US focus usually skews toward obesity when it comes to weight control, statistics indicate that Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa in the United States affect between 5 million and 16 million people. Another meaningful strategy would be to encourage clothes designers to hire normal-size fashion models, a trend that would have a trickle-down effect beneficial to the nation’s younger consumers. Brown of the Elite agency said fashion shows reflect the tastes of clothing designers, who for now prefer the Kate Moss look as opposed to the curvier dimensions of models such as Cindy Crawford in years past. Assuming Kate Moss and the rest of the glamorous gang beefed up a bit, they also have a chance to become something really special: role models.
