Scarlett Johansson Latest Fashion Career
Sportswear giant Reebok have signed a multi-million dollar deal with Scarlett Johansson to help create their Scarlett ‘Hearts’ Rbk range - a new “high-end signature line of retro-chic footwear and clothing”. “Reebok has a rich heritage in developing and designing cutting-edge women’s product which makes them an ideal company to partner with to launch Scarlett ‘Hearts’ Rbk,” the 21-year-old actress said in a statement. “I am very enthusiastic about working with Reebok to design this line.”
The clothes and shoes, which the company describes as being for the “multi-dimensional woman” will debut in high-end department stores and boutiques next spring. “This is so surprising. I never expected all this,” Johansson said of the large number of employees on hand for her Reebok visit.
“Scarlett embodies the pulse points of our brand–individuality, authenticity and a life lived to the fullest in perpetual motion,” Reebok President and CEO Paul Harrington said in a statement. “These characteristics make her the perfect fit for our new women’s campaign.”
Analysts view the multiyear deal as an attempt to resurrect department store interest in Reebok and reconnect with female customers who built it into a top athletic footwear company in the aerobics-crazed 1980s. “The fashion content of the brand hasn’t kept up in the last couple of years,” industry analyst John Shanley said.
Scarlett Johansson has previously appeared in ads for Louis Vuitton and Calvin Klein perfume, and is currently a spokesmodel for L’Oreal Paris.
She has become a fashion darling during a film career that’s included “Ghost World” and “Lost in Translation.” But the buxom beauty, whose cups have runneth over in many a red carpet dress, drew darts from Allen, who reportedly admonished her to “tone it down” and dress her age.
The starlet has taken a very active role in creating the Rbk collection from the initial concept, Schaeffer said. She’s had several product and design meetings with Reebok, including a three-hour session Monday prior to her visit yesterday to its headquarters.
In a Women’s Wear Daily interview, Johansson said she’s “definitely not athletic in any way,” but likes to do yoga and “stretch out.”
“I like the idea of exercise and aerobics being glamorous: Olivia Newton-John and women exercising in false eyelashes,” the New York native told WWD. “I am basically designing clothing for my friends, and a lot of my friends are also regular girls with lovely curves and feminine figures.”
